§ 12.20.040. Cemetery committee.

  • The management and control of South Hill Cemetery and Fairlawn Cemetery and all portions thereof shall be vested in the Cemetery Committee of the Council. The Committee shall supervise, direct and attend to maintaining, ornamenting and improving the said grounds and contract or cause contracts to be made with suitable persons providing for the care, maintenance or improving of the cemeteries, provided however, where the maintenance is to be contracted for any number of years, it shall be with the consent of the City Council. All receipts on account of the cemeteries, whether arising from the sale of lots therein, from donations, from appropriations from the City Treasury, or otherwise, shall be exclusively used, expended and applied, under the direction of the Committee, to the preserving, protecting, extending, laying out, improving and ornamenting the grounds of the cemeteries; provided that no money shall be spent in advance of the receipts thereof, nor shall any debts be incurred on account of the cemeteries without the prior consent of the City Council. The Cemetery Committee shall from time to time make such recommendations as it shall deem appropriate as to the purchase price of unsold cemetery lots.
